A Humble Beginning in Magnolia, Texas

Founded in Magnolia, Texas, in 2002 by brothers Zachary and Garett Oliphant and their father Wesley J. Oliphant, P.E., Exo started as a utility and traffic light pole manufacturer. The founders managed all aspects of the business, from design to construction. After being acquired by a Fortune 500 company, they identified a critical need to address the nation’s aging infrastructure, as well as the often missed manufacturing, welding, fitting, and construction issues found in newly built structures. The focus shifted to asset inspection, restoration, replacement, and life extension. In 2008, Exo as we know it today was born.

Exo’s work is led by structural engineers, including three Gene Wilhoite Innovation Award recipients, whose contributions over decades, have shaped the overhead power line structures industry today.

Exo has inspected and assessed over one million assets across North America.

Our focus is on prioritizing risk and extending the useful life of our clients’ assets, be it restoring strength to a structure, treating decay in wood poles, or addressing corrosion in aging steel structures. We have custom structural assessment and restoration programs for the largest retailers in the world, and utilities all over North America. In addition, we have invested heavily in our wood pole inspection, treatment and reinforcement services with the purchase of RAM Utilities and the construction of Exo’s Wood Pole Training Facility, near Houston, Texas.
