Renewable Generation - Frequently Asked Questions

The "balance of plant" refers to all electrical and structural infrastructure that connects multiple power generating assets to a delivery point where power is transferred to the grid. Maintenance of this system includes everything from oil sampling of transformers to the structural inspection of gen tie transmission poles and towers.

Since a single missing cotter pin could potentially take an entire wind or solar site offline, the owner/operator of those assets would be well served to perform detailed, annual inspections on their system that focus on the structural integrity of towers, in addition to the electrical functionality of components.
