“Optimizing Reliability and Resilience of Overhead Distribution Lines”
Abstract:
This workshop will overview Exo’s program for the collection and assessment of detailed inspection data, including LiDAR for overhead distribution line assets, further augmented with Power Line Systems (PLS) industry-leading overhead line and pole loading analysis software. The powerful combination will cost-effectively streamline and improve confidence that the overhead distribution system poles, wires, and equipment are fully compliant with applicable Codes and Standards and will remain structurally reliable, resilient, and safe!

Transmission Structures Down Range:
Assessment and Remediations for Bullet Damage
Abstract:
During the installation of a second circuit for an existing 345kV transmission line near Brownsville, TX, it was discovered that a steel monopole tangent structure had been subjected to significant damage due to bullet impacts since installed in 2016. This presentation will describe the cause of the damage and the alternatives evaluated prior to performing in-situ remediations. Field assessments include evaluating damage to the structure utilizing UAV drone inspections, nondestructive magnetic particle testing, post processing reporting, engineering modeling, investigation, and a remediation plan. Additionally, lessons learned will be discussed on how to access a structure adjacent to a public rifle range and the observations made to determine a unique solution and alternate options to prevent continued damage.
